Horse figures with bit for attaching reins

These two little bronze horses were part of a horse’s bit.

They were found in the grave of an important person, probably a military leader. Warriors rode into battle on horseback at the time (Iron Age).

Equipped with a sword, helmet, armour, shield and a lance, the warriors must have looked really impressive!

Do you know what a bit is? It’s a piece of iron that goes in a horse’s mouth. The reins are attached to the bit so the rider can steer the horse.
