Ötzi carried a bow and several arrows with him.

But strangely, neither the bow nor the arrows were finished!

The bow didn’t have a bowstring and the arrows didn’t have arrowheads. So how could Ötzi have shot an animal or protected himself from his enemies? To make the arrows ready to shoot, he still had to attach a flint arrowhead like this and feathers on the wooden shafts.

Three half feathers were attached to the shafts with thin nettle threads. The feathers helped the arrow to fly straight and hit its target.

Each shaft was about 85 cm long. Would you like to see how long that is? If you stood an arrow on the ground next to you, would it reach above or below your navel?
