19 September 2011: 20 years of Ötzi the Iceman

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Iceman’s discovery, a ceremony brought together people who have been involved with him from the outset as well as those who look after him now. The guest speakers are the two provincial governors of Tyrol and South Tyrol, Luis Durnwalder and Günther Platter or the latter’s deputy, Anton Steixner. The keynote speech will be delivered by Niels Lynnerup, President of the Scientific Advisory Committee on the Iceman, on the topic: “Why study the Iceman?” The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology had opened the special anniversary exhibition Ötzi20 Life.Science.Fiction.Reality to the public free of charge for the entire day.
